+ For the price I found the stay very good, very friendly staff and nice breakfast buffet!
- Stairs to my room was very small and twisty but it certainly adds character!!
David Burnett Smke friendly comparatively chp, amazingly located for Rd Light &

+ 1* so what do you expect - Comparatively cheap. Simple and clean (Except for old bubble gum stuck to wall in room) Shower was grim looking but clean, powerful and really hot. Insanely close to Station and at top of the Red Light.
- In a single room at top of building so long walk up and very low ceiling with beams that I banged my head on a few times (but am tall).
sam Good hotel

dirk diggler Great cheap hotel

+ 2 mins from train station and all the action i.e. coffee shops and red light dis.
- if you want a quiet trip dont live in this area, however if you want to party this is the one
Allison Amazing location

+ FANTASTIC LOCATION, great price, friendly people, comfortable beds, and seriously the location alone makes it PERFECT!! Like three minutes away from central station, and right at the beginning of the Red Light District. PERFECT!
- Steep winding stairs of course, only bad for people who are afraid of stairs or have difficulty with stairs, otherwise not at all a problem; pretty noisy 24/7, so not for a relaxing couples' trip.
KANELLI DERMATI De Mallemoolen Amsterdam is a good choice

Jules n Alexsa Basic hotel for young brits on a tight budget, that wana get high.

+ We were allowed to smoke weed out the back of the hotel!! good for young people that wana have a laugh and like to smoke cannabis as there is lots of coffee shops near by and pubs! Very nice staff.clean towel and room everyday.free breakfast! location literally round the corner from red light district.if your just lookin for somewhere half decent to crash out after going out on a crazy one, this is for u.good for couples. There was a good variety of drinks in the morning, tea, hot chocolate, apple, orange, pinapple, tropical etc.Nothing got stolen from us! just an all round good hotel> veRy happY dayZ man! we miss it! good price!
- Small cramped room.very basic.had to give in key every time we went out, which was a little uncomforting, but we always kept our most important stuff on us so we didnt really mind.got a bit of a rash from a horrible itchy blanket on the bed, so we just didnt use it and used the other ones on the bed.the breakfast was good for free but the only hot food was hard boiled eggs! no fry up or even toast.shared shower, but at least it was hot and clean.not much really, maybe not so good for older people or bigger families.steep stairs but thats everywhere u go in amsterdam.
Carmen Salgueiro Lopez A very good average hotel

+ Receptionists extremely helpful luggage storage area for last day
- room smelled of cigarette smoke when we arrived. one morning, one of the other guests smoked in the toilet which smelled for several hours afterwards
Stephen Thompson OK for some...
3.0
+ If you are going to Amsterdam for a stag do or with a group of blokes for a crazy weekend then this hotel will suffice due to it's great central location effectively in the RLD. In almost any other circumstances however I suggest you look elsewhere.
- Not all rooms have en-suite, location is perhaps too colourful for some guests, noisy, communal bathrooms and showers were horrible....
N. All in all OK!
6.6
+ very friendly staff
- small room, no possibility to hang clothes
Benoit Too much expensive for the quality of a youth hostel
4.8
+ good location
- too much expensive for the poor quality. no hot water during 3 days, the guy proposed to open another room in another hotel just to take the shower...
Anonymous Good location
6.6
+ Very good location. Rooms certainly arent like the Ritz but sheets and towels were clean. Shower was good and staff were very helpful and friendly. Breakfast was also excellent
- No locks on sash window or volume on our TV
Nadine Location, location, location!!! (cuz the room is HORRIBLE)
5.6
+ Perfect location in the Red Light District! Only three minutes walking from Centraal Station (unless you take a wrong turn like we did the first day). The street is very lively, there are a lot of coffeshops and there's even a gay club (Cockring). It's perfect walking distance from ANYWHERE in the city! Even though the room was depressively horrid, the beds were actually very comfortable (yes, we're a couple and we got a tiny room with twin beds...)! Breakfast is served at the place next door (it definitely looks like a more comfortable hotel) and it's just fine: cereal, cold cuts, bread (not toast- BREAD), coffee, hot chocolate, cheese... The staff are friendly and helpful and we even had our room done every day.
- Oh my GOD! The place was HORRIBLE! And I'm not talking "oh well, it's a bit tacky and out of date" horrible, I'm talking "kick me in the mouth and send me flying out the window cuz I don't wanna spend one more single second in here" horrible! The first thing you see when you're buzzed into the hotel is a narrow and vertiginous stairwell with about a 45% slope so I'd travel light if I were you cuz I wouldn't want to be hauling heavy suitcases up THAT! The bedroom is just awful and depressing, there's no more to it. The TV broke down on the second day and we could only see half the screen. The bathroom (shared with 2 or 3 other rooms) was ordered straight out of the little house of horrors catalogue and the shower (also shared) had no ventilation so I ended up coming out surrounded by a fog. I was unlucky enough to get sick two days before travelling to Amsterdam so I wasn't feeling very well the whole time there, and the bedroom was just so depressing that it made me feel even worse. I preferred to spend the whole day out on the streets with a whole toilet paper roll than staying in there resting. Needless to say, my boyfriend was oblivious to everything, hehe. Finally, the price was excessive! 265€/3 nights for THAT?!? No way will I pay that again. I might return to the hotel for a quick and cheap getaway... but 265€ is NOT cheap enough to get me back in there!
Philip Snoad Excellent Budget hotel
9.2
+ Great Service, all staff very friendly, helpful and polite. Always keen to help us out if needed e.g. directions. Ideal location. Very relaxed hotel
- Sharing a toilet and shower although this doesnt really bother me! No bar to meet other people staying at the hotel, again doesnt really bother me but would of been nice, however im sure there would of been if there was enough space.
Françoise Fun place to stay for a few days, if you like stairs
7.2
+ Price, in the center of Amsterdam. Very good breakfast. Helpful staff.
- The shower was OK (en suite), but the lavatory was down 2 levels, and therefore back 2 levels to the room, by very narrow stairs, no lift.

- cleaning room was not made every day

+ Hotel de Mallemoolen did the job, just. The rooms are adequate, beds comfortable enough. The hotel is located on Warmoestraat, 2 minutes away from a large number of coffee shops, which is perfect for those who spend most of their time there. Hotel is open 24 hours.
- Cost, size of the rooms, awkwardness of entry into rooms (very narrow steep staircase), shared facilities (shower, toilet), TV reception, lack of any luxuries.
Matt Good location and value
8.6
+ Location was excellent. Price was good, especially considering breakfast is included. Short walk to many bars, cafes, coffeeshops, and central station.
- There was a lot of noise from the street and other guests. The hotel had smoking rooms, so it sometimes smelled of weed. It would not be the place to go if you want to go to bed early and get a quiet night sleep.
Jukka Ignore the poor reviews.
8.8
+ Everything was nice. It's stupid for people to complain about basic things on Dutch architechture, like the steep stairs and no elevator. What do you expect from a 200 year old dutch house!?
- Why do you need to clean the toilet at NIGHT?
Peggy Great central location
7.6
+ Excellent breakfast with very clean eating area. Friendly and helpful staff. Great central location and easy to walk anywhere.
- Narrow steps--we didn't have a bathroom and had to go down several flights to get to one.
Nate Close to centre but mouldy
5.2
+ In the middle of town, close to central station. Nice breakfast, goog service.
- Mouldy, smelly rooms and sanitary areas.

+ Upgraded us from 1* room to our own 3* apartment. Excellent!!!
Mum BIG fans of Mallemoolen!
10
+ Absolutely excellent- a rock bottom price right at the start of Warmoestraat, so closest to the station, a bit quieter than lower down- and we were uprated so cable TV, ensuite, ground floor... BRILLIANT! Definately use them. Great desk folk too- humourous, helpful & knowledgable.
- Would have liked a coffee machine in the foyer...well, it's the only minus I could think of!!

+ very kind receptionist
Anonymous Great location, great staff, great price.
8.6
+ Had booked a one star room, was upgraded (for no additional charge) to a three star in the adjacent hotel due to them being overbooked - pleasant surprise, especially as they had no obligation to give us a room. Lovely staff, free internet and luggage room use. No noise in the rooms. Wonderfully central location.
- Area surrounding is somewhat touristy but wasn't a problem. Rooms were a little hot.

+ Great location near the train station, and in the bustling streets near the red light district. Outstanding staff with great customer service skills. Nice breakfast included in the price. This was fine for us, and what we expected, which was an inexpensive place to lay our traveling family's head for the evening. Good security.
- Older hotel with steep stairs for access. Dim lighting, but adequate. Some noise from adjacent rooms, and from other guests returning later in the evening.

+ Convenient location. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Free internet.
- The room was quite damp but that is probably just Amsterdam. The walls were thin which was problematic if the other guests were inconsiderate when they stayed up/came back late at night.

8.2
+ The people in the front desk where amazing, very helpfull, also the breakfast is amazing!
- There was no elevator and the stairs are very steep!, but is not a big problem.

+ a plus about our room was the view. we had a nice view outside on to the street. also the room was a great size with comfy beds, wich where changed both days. would mainly recomend for groups of people who need a cheep room in a great location.
- two bad things really. stairs where realy steep wich where the last thing i needed after being blitzed all day. and the shower and toilet. had to share toilet and shower with our floor. shower was a tad smelly and was just a waist high tap with water coming out as was no shower hose or head on it.

+ 2 minutes walk away from central station, right amongst all of Amsterdams attractions, very friendly staff, free use of internet, rooms were very spacious and clean, breakfast was delicious. Will definitely come here again.
- One of the rooms had a shared bathroom but we never even seen any of the guests anyway so it didnt really matter!!!!

+ Extremely helpful and friendly staff. Location is a plus, walking distande to everything. Authentic Amsterdam living with narrow, step stairs.
- Even though we thought it was a great experience the narrow, step stairs it should be mentioned. Anyone with a minor difficulty getting around or back problems will have an issue with the stairs. Also that is is not smoke free.
Jeanette
5.8
+ Near main train station.
- Not being able to have anything to eat for breakfast a little earlier than usual even though it was arranged with the hotel beforehand. Room very, very small!
