Multatuli was the writer of Max Havelaar, which is one of the most important books in Dutch literary history. From the Multatuli hotel you can explore the city on foot, although another option is to go on an inspiring canal cruise. In a relatively small area surrounding the hotel there are several tourist sights, such as the Begijnhof and the Dam square and there are also numerous shops nearby as.

Amsterdam Central Station is located on the other side of the road and this station is a main connection point for numerous train, subway and tram lines. From here you can easily reach the suburbs, the RAI conference and exhibition centre and the WTC. Schiphol Amsterdam Airport is easy to reach by train.

Daniel Good hotel at a good price.: 23 February 2011; 9.2; + Decent rooms for the price, very good location and friendly staff; - The couple next door smoked in their room even though it is not allowed but semt like the staff did nothing about it. Once in a while it would smell a little, but it was not very annoying. To the staffs point though, we did not complain so maybe thats why they did nothing.

Niall Roche Ideal budget hotel in the heart of Amsterdam: 29 August 2010; 9.8; + A very well-priced hotel in a very central location - righ across the road from Central Station and only minutes from all the main attractions., The staff were very friendly and helpful - even when we slept in late and missed our checkout time.; - Nothing really. MARK BATEMAN Great location but small hotel with not much to it, poor breakfast: 18 June 2010; 6.4; + The location of the hotel is very handy, 300metres from central station. And although the room was very very small the beds were comfortable.; - Room was very small and the breakfast wasn't much. Bread and butter was the highlight of the breakfast in this hotel. Microwaved bacon appeared every hour or so but again wasnt much. Small room and bathroom not much room for more than 1 person let alone 2. Also the hotel attempted to charge me for alcohol in the mini fridge which i did not drink. I refused to pay the price for it.

Anonymous Central comfortable hotel: 30 April 2010; 7.6; + Easy access from station. Arrived early and able to access room. Good breakfast. Good sized bathroom with powerful shower. Ablel to leave luggage in locker after checkout-no charge.; - Booked twin room. Room had 2 single beds and one double bed. Had to move beds around to get access to bedside table and lamps. Lots of dust under beds! My bed had 3 mattresses on it - very comfortable but top one kept slipping off!

As i had the flu at the time it caused more breathing difficulties. Maybe the hotel should be all non smoking.

Lynne Well worth the money.: 23 December 2009; 9.2; + there are several positive aspects to this hotel. firstly: the location is fantastic, so central to everything you want to see.secondly: the staff were excellent, very helpful and polite. thirdly: very good breakfast, so often breakfast consists of pre packed patries with a small pot of jam, not so here, lots ofpastries but also hot food was readily available and well cooked. all in all good value for money.

Room was warm, comfortable and clean. Would stay there again, and recommend the hotel to friends.; - The only minus point was having to wait for someone to open the hotel front door, a bit petty perhaps, but occasionally irritating.

Breakfast was scrambled eggs, bacon, juice, various cereals, milk, cold cuts, cheese, bread and coffee and open until 10am. Hotel is close to shopping, station, and coffee houses. Gave us a free map. Helped find a much cheaper solution for parking car.; - Access to room difficult with narrow passageways. Room was quite small. Refrigerator didn't really work. Bathroom/toilet was truly miniscule.

The staff were very helpful , (as are all the dutch people we met. we only stayed one night but would have liked to stay longer. I have short breaks in Amsterdam throught the year and would happily stay at the hotel again
