The Hotel De Munck in Amsterdam is a memorable 2-star hotel in a characteristic and quiet canal street in the city centre. This simple yet charming family-run hotel had been positively reviewed in several travel guides. The building in which it is located was built in 1727 as the residence of one of the sea captains of the Dutch East India Company. The hotel?s current owners have a special liking for sixties pop music, as is evident from the many colourful album covers that decorate the walls. The reception and breakfast areas are furnished with many sixties accents, including an original jukebox. Equally charming is the hotel?s patio, which is bursting with colourful flowers in the summertime.
The entire hotel is smoke-free. The 16 rooms of Hotel De Munck have modern furnishings and are equipped with comfortable facilities. Each room has a television, telephone, radio, and in most cases a private toilet and bath/shower. At additional charge Hotel De Munck also offers a speedy laundry service and a professional and multilingual babysitting service (reservations for this service may be needed in the weekends. The hotel is located in Amsterdam?s famous ring of canals, close to the ?Frederiksplein? (Frederik Square). It has a nice view of the ?Achtergracht,? a small canal that runs into the river Amstel. As such, the hotel has a convenient location near the city centre. At 300 metre distance from the hotel you will find a stop for tramline 4, which offers guests a good connection to the old city through the 'Utrechtsestraat'. On this street, you will also find a great variety of shops, bars, and restaurants. Within walking distance of the hotel there is a good number of well-known museums, important shopping streets, and two lively markets: the market on the 'Waterlooplein' and the 'Albert Cuypmarkt'. The city?s vibrant nightlife can be experienced at the nearby ?Rembrandtplein?, so guests of the hotel will have a many-sided impression of what the city of Amsterdam has to offer.
