NH Schiller Hotel Amsterdam

Four stars hotel

Rembrandtplein 26-36, Amsterdam Map 0.9 km (City centre)

Score of 9 reviews: 8.1

The NH Schiller Hotel is situated in a stunning art deco building. The stained glass illustrations featured in the hotel restaurant's high windows are a good example of this, as is the monumental staircase in the entrance hall with its decorative, wrought iron bannisters. The hotel rooms are classically furnished, and come with excellent bedding and a good bathroom. Guests can also make use of the laundry service.

Besides helpful and friendly staff, NH Schiller Hotel Amsterdam also offers excellent facilities. Brasserie Schiller daily opens its doors for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The restaurant has existed since 1912, and many guests return to enjoy delicious French Mediterranean cuisine, served in a special ambience. The outdoor terrace in the hotel's garden is open during warm weather.

The two conference rooms can be booked for conferences as well as private dinners. The conference rooms enjoy pleasant, natural light, and are suitable for up to 12 persons per room.

Surroundings

The NH Hotel Schiller is located on one of the most vibrant squares in Amsterdam. It is an informal meeting place for Amsterdammers as well as tourists. Typical Amsterdam cafés, plenty of good restaurants, trendy clubs, cinemas and theatres make the evening and nightlife around the Rembrandtplein (Rembrandt Square) a unique experience. You can take lovely walks past the sights of Amsterdam, such as the Beurs van Berlage, the Nieuwe Kerk church, Koninklijk Paleis (Royal Palace), the Rijksmuseum and the Spiegelkwartier (Spiegel Quarter). Go past the Gouden Bocht (Golden Bend) on the Herengracht canal and the Magere Brug (Skinny Bridge) on the river Amstel and you'll find yourself back on the Rembrandtplein.

Food and Drinks

Brasserie Schiller offers various culinary specialities accompanied by a fine selection of wines. Breakfast, lunch and dinner can be enjoyed in one of the separate rooms, as well as on the sun terrace. The kitchen has an international orientation with French and Dutch influences. The Brasserie's separate rooms lend themselves perfectly for accommodating larger groups of up to 200 persons. A three-course menu is offered daily at a special price. Breakfast, dubbed 'Breakfresh', consists of a buffet including hot and cold dishes and is served daily from 07:00 - 10:30.

Time to Upgrade NH Schiller
  • + Personels at the front desk were very helpful and accommodating. Hotel to airport transfer was a good factor.
  • Hotel lounge and furnitures needs some remodeling to brighten it, less on the big paintings.

Convenience in Amsterdam
  • + Staff was helpful and friendly at all times. Enjoyed our stay in Amsterdam and loved the location of your hotel. Everything was within walking distance for us. That's important when you only have a few days in the city.

Exceptional service!
  • + Exceptional service! Despite the pressure on all the hotels around Rembrandtsplein during the Queens Day weekend, the staff went to length with arranging both a room upgrade and late check out.

Fab location, bit chilly and not so happy with the reception staff
  • + Fantastic location and extremely clean.
  • A little on the expensive side. Extra blankets in the wardrobe (instead of an extra pillow) would be a good idea during the winter, the room was a bit cold when we stayed. Reception staff firstly sent us to a room with a small single bed (there were two of us). We were tired and although we can forgive this mix up, I was not happy when I came down to use the internet. The lasy at reception said he had no coupons and while I stood there waiting, the receptionist continued to serve other customers, do check outs, etc. and left me standing waiting. In the end I gave up waiting and went to an internet cafe.

We will be back!
  • + The reception staff were friendly and efficient as were the breakfast room staff. The room was spacious quiet and very comfortable. The toiletries very fragrant!
  • Only a very minor point - a couple of cushions (or extra pillows) to prop up in bed would have been useful, to make reading or watching TV easier.

NH Schiller a good choice & smoker-friendly!
  • + Smoker-friendly rooms ARE available! Very difficult to find in post-ban Netherlands. Great location, nice reception staff, clean & modern rooms.
  • The walls were thin, although if you need a quiet place to stay reconsider Amsterdam's Centrum and opt for somewhere in the suburbs.

Better next time
  • The toilet didn't work properly (water doesn't stop running). The plug in the sink could not be raised and therefore water didn't run down...we removed the plug completely that way we could use it.

Brilliant hotel on Rembrandtsplein.
  • + We got given a room with a huge balcony facing Rembrandtsplein at no extra cost, the staff were generally smiling and helpful. Nice arrangement of complimentary toiletries. For an Amsterdam hotel, the room is really big. This hotel was recommended to me by a friend who travels to Amsterdam a lot and I wasn't disappointed. The location is brilliant -really central but in a far better area than most hotels which are near to the main Station.
  • The price of the breakfast is extremely high for what is given (general continental breakfast) and there are literally dozens of cafes nearby where you can get the same breakfast for less than half what the hotel charges. Also there were a few cracked tiles in the bathroom, but nothing major.

  • + Room was excellent - very clean, couldnt have asked for more.
  • Had a square view room which was noisy in the morning and night...however had great atmosphere coming in from the square in the evening.

  • (Other)
  • + Good location for entertainment, eating out, bars etc, close to tram and canal boat stops. Peter the duty manager arranged for a room transfer as we were unhappy with our 1st night's stay.
  • A very noisy hotel if you are overlooking the Rembrandt Square. The standard of rooms was just about acceptable but not Art Deco. The price is based on 4 stars but feel that this highly overated. Meals were expensive and not good value for money.
