The Quentin England stands in the quiet 'Roemer Visscherstraat', within the historic heart of Amsterdam. On one side of this street lies the beautiful 'Vondelpark'. This park is popular with the locals as well as tourists to enjoy a (free) open air concert during summertime, take a stroll in, to enjoy a picnic or to just relax in the grass. And after this recharge it is time to discover the city. From the hotel it is only a 3-minute walk to the cosy bars, the casino and the clubs that surround the 'Leidseplein'. Within a 5-minute walk you will find several renowned museums at the 'Museumplein', such as the 'Rijksmuseum', the 'Stedelijk Museum' and the 'Van Gogh Museum'. The exclusive shops of the 'P.C. Hooftstraat' are also just around the corner from the hotel.

The building of The Quentin England is one of the 'Zevenlandenhuizen' (houses of seven countries). This attraction is also known as 'Verenigd Europa' (United Europe). These houses are a good example of some typical building styles of seven European countries: France, England, The Netherlands, Germany, Russia, Spain and Italy. All of the rooms in the hotel are equipped with a television, telephone, shower and toilet and a desk. The hotel’s perfect location enables you to enjoy the vibrant city of Amsterdam, but at the same time ensures you some peace and quiet in the lobby or in the privacy of your room.

Non-smoking rooms are available on request. Guests have access to a smoking garden. The hotel offers free Internet, a free city map and you can also purchase tickets at the reception for several museums and sights.

Great location in walking distance to everything
  • * my tip Just around the corner on 1e Constantijn Huygenstraat 112 lies Trattoria Toto with a 100 Italian kitchen. We had our best meal of the holiday there. Good atmosphere and service. We also highly recommend the Versetzmuseum (the resistance museum) - very informative and interesting exhibition about Amsterdam The Netherlands during WW2

Do not stay at the Quentin England
  • + The hotel was very well located and the staff was very kind. We made some strong complaints to the staff and they handled it very well without getting defensive or rude.
  • We didn't have hot water in our shower the first morning and the internet did not work. There was also no soap in the bathroom, only a foam for "body and hair." The bathroom door was a hollow core door that slid into place, making you feel like you were in a closet not a bathroom. The room itself was tiny and made of paper thin walls. We could hear everything in the hallway and room next door. The price of the hotel was 258E, no breakfast. What a rip off.

  • + The rooms I got was modern, with a street view.
  • The directions to the Hotel are not clear on their website. Need to give better directions for locating the hotel. It was very hard to find this hotel, for a first time person in Amsterdam. Took almost 2 hours. The bathrooms are poor, but at least still standard.
  • * my tip Make sure you print out a map to find this place.

Great location
  • + The desk clerk was very courteous. Sensing I was a bit old to lug my heavy suitcase to the top floor he kindly changed me room to a lower floor thus saving me some wind! I appreciated the kindness.
  • No elevator.
  • * my tip The breakfast is a bit bland.

Friendly, Well located and adequate for budget accomodation
  • + Good location close to Liedesplein center. Friendly staff and courteous service. Good price for time of year. Room was a budget single in the basement. No window but adequate if it's somewhere to lay your head after parting and coffee shops!
  • Small room. Thin walls.
  • * my tip Sports Bar for breakfast.....Bulldog for coffee shop. Buy a 24 hr tram pass available directly on any tram for good value.

Great location, friendly staff
  • + The Quentin England Amsterdam is in an amazing location, just off the Leidseplein, which has a great choice of bars and restaurants. The hotel staff were very nice and accommodating, and we were upgraded at check in.
  • The shower was almost falling off the wall which made using it a bit difficult, and our double bed consisted of 2 singles pushed together which is not what we expected.
  • * my tip We loved Gauchos- the Argentinean restaurant on the Leidseplein. Had amazing steak and red wine!

Simple but good location
  • + No traffic noise, a peaceful location. The staff was friendly. The breakfast was simple but enough, it cost 7 euros. The room was clean but simple (just one clothes hanger per person). Ask for a non-smoker room.
  • A very steep staircase, not for people with bad legs. The walls were paper thin: at the night a neighbour came home at 5 o´clock in the night and we awoke. In the bathroom the electric contact box was not shielded and it was located by the shower: a potential risk for death! In the bathroom there was mold in the ceiling, so be aware if you are allergetic to it. The double bed was ok, but the third bed for a 183 cm long teenager was too short.
  • * my tip Take your own clothes hangers with you as well as your own hair dryer if needed.

Great location, great bed!
  • + Location is perfect!
  • Room is small, but that how is it in Amsterdam. Service is great for the nordic point of view - I'm sure small talk-orientaded persons might find service too passive.

You'll enjoy Amsterdam a lot more staying somewhere else!
  • + Ive stayed at this hotel before and it is a decent hotel except our stay wasnt too pleasant this last time.
  • I understand we stayed here during the week of Queen's Day so prices were going to be higher but we were over charged for a bed in an attic. The door couldnt even open two thirds of the way because it would hit the bed. My wife and I each had only one suitcase and with our bags there was never no room for the both of us to get dressed in the morning at the same time. There was no ventiliation in the room except for a skylight which if you opened it would cause dirt from the hotel's roof to fall directly onto our bed. With all this said and the heavy price tag for our stay there was no wi-fi for the entire 5-day stay and we'd ask daily if it was fixed and they would say "tomorrow".

  • some repair of the inside could be much better, and also the cleaning, and a lot of stairs to the room

Friendly & cheap
  • + Cheaper than the rest and happy to book for just one night. Friendly helpful staff. Luggage room so you can leave your bag and see town on your last day. 24 hr reception.
  • I stayed in the cheapest room, so I have no idea what their nicer rooms are like: My room was pretty basic and compact, but they made that clear when I booked it. The only slight gripe I would have is that the sound insulation between the rooms in the basement isn't great and the stairs down there are pretty steep. It suited me because I wanted to spend as much time as possible seeing Amsterdam and as little time as possible seeing the hotel!

  • The hotels needs restoration. The floor almost felt in my head....The beds and closet were already to collapse... it is a pitty to have such bad furniture in such a nice building.

Only Fools and Horse Horror Hotel
  • + Location was excellent, close to trams and the main square, hotel was cheap also.
  • you buy cheap you get cheap and in this case it was true, room was tiny, there was a small cupboard and a small bathroom that had sink, toilet and shower combined. When we arrived the guy downstairs was rude and abrupt, again location was excellent but come to think of it for what you get the room was over priced.

  • + singleroom with private shower and toillet and tv is nice
  • shower cabin was not flushing good, within 1 min. the water reached about 15 cm up your legs! And there were various leaking plumpings. Toiletflusher is ectric and very noisy through the night. So I had to remove the power from it to get some sleep. Very hot heatingpipes above the bed!!

Go with a hostel
  • + The staff was helpful to me when I asked them touristy information, and the hotel is located right next to the popular Leidsplein plaza and walking distance from the center of town (if you're intent on saving money).
  • The Quentin England was in the top 3 cheapest hotels I have ever stayed in, for sure. There is a reason why the price is so low. The rooms are spartan, and they don't replace the cup you drink out of from day-to-day. The shower in our room was a spout, a curtain, and a drain next to the toilet. The walls are thin, and tv/breakfast is extra. If you can find a decent hostel, I'd recommend staying there.

Standard hotel, better available for what you're paying
  • tv in our room didn't work. had to swap with one from another room. lady was very helpful but it was still a pain. why have and advertise tv's in your rooms if they don't work?

nae moaning...its pure cheap!!!
  • + Staff are brilliantly chilled out and relaxed, location is perfect for the price - everything is within walking disatnce and you're away from the madness, if you want to you can touch both sides of your room at the same time by lying down and stretching out a wee bit.
  • The stairs/ladders to the top floor are brutal after a few joints!!!

An adventure
  • + The staff were very friendly and helpful. The price was excellent.
  • The directions on the web-site regarding how to get to the hotel from the airport were completely out of date, and therefore unusable. I ended up having to take a cab from the airport which cost me more than the price of my room.
