Description

This historical building used to function as an office on the old harbour front. This seems odd, but the canals, which used to surround the building, were in fact filled up at the end of the 19th century. What used to be the bustling hub of naval and shipping activity is now the bustling city centre of Amsterdam. As such, many companies closed down because of the decrease in naval activity in the area. The 18th and 19th century structures were often converted into apartments and hotels, which thanks to their excellent location were (and still are!) great bases for travellers seeking culture.

Hotel Sint Nicolaas has a wide variety of room types. All rooms overlook the splendid city centre, but quiet rooms can also arranged. The rooms are fitted with double-glazing. Have you got something to celebrate, or would you like to surprise a loved one? Then don't hesitate in asking staff or write a special request on the booking form. All rooms come with a private bathroom with bath and/or shower, television, telephone and a safe. The delightful box-spring beds ( present in all rooms) guarantee comfort, ensuring you get your 40 winks.

Food and Drinks

A continental breakfast is available on the ground floor from 07:30 - 10:00, which includes various types of bread, cereals and fruit, giving you a great start of the day. Also situated on the ground floor is a relaxing bar where you can enjoy typical Dutch liqueurs into the early hours.

Internet

In the hotel guests can make free use of wireless internet.

Other information

- The hotel has a 24-hour reception.
- Pets are not allowed.
- Luggage can be stored at the hotel.
- The following credit cards are accepted: American Express, Visa, Euro/Mastercard, Diners, JCB.
- Hair dryers, iron and ironing board can be borrowed at the reception, free of charge. During summer a fan can be arranged for the rooms that do not have air conditioning.

Surroundings

Hotel Sint Nicolaas is situated in the heart of the city centre. Various excursions and city trips can be arranged through the hotel. Many areas of interest are also within walking distance. The Rijksmuseum, Stedelijk Museum, Van Gogh Museum and the Scheepvaartmuseum (Shipping Museum) are easy to reach. The bustling city centre offers something for everyone: numerous restaurants surround the hotel and the lively Rembrandtplein is packed with great bars.

+ In a good location, close to Central Station & shopping area.
- A little bit grubby but overall good value for money - I would recommend staying there if you had a low budget.

+ WHEN COMMING ONE RECEPTIONIST WAS NOT FRIENDY,VERY COLD,DID NOT GET THE ROOM ACCORDING TO WISHES,BUT THE OTHER REC.WITH A BIT OF GOOD WILL CHANGED THE ROOM(HE WAS VERY EFFICIENT) ,AND ALL THE OTHER WERE VERY CORRECT AND FRIENDLY. -I WOULD GO THERE AGAIN.
- IN ALL THE ROOMS SHOULD BE COFFEE MAKER. THE TRAM SIDE IS PROBABLY NOISY,BUT THE OTHER SIDE IS GREAT,SPECIALLY UPPER FLOORS. MAYBE,BECOUSE OF THE COUNTRY THEME, A BIT OF FLOWERS IN THE ROOM WOULD BE WARM WELCOME.

+ Close to Central Station and transportation. Nice atmosphere. Some rooms more interesting than others.
- Only liquid soap in the bathroom. "Free internet" is only for first 30 minutes and then a bit of a pain getting new IDs for purchased extension time.

+ The location was perfect and the hotel staff was amazing.
- We had a do not disturb sign on the door and the maids ignored it the entire time, coming in a least once a day to clean.
Gear Holohan Excellent choice
8.4
+ Excellent location, anything not within the immediate area (a lot) was accessible by tram with stops just outside the door.
- Upon booking a double bed we found out it was two beds put together - falling between them happened a few times!

+ Great service at the desk
- Over charged!!!!! Total price € 565.00 for three nights???? While sitting having breakfast people were walking into your hotel off the street and asking for room prices and they were told € 95.00 per night....?????? We will be returning in Aug but and would like to stay at your hotel BUT not for € 188.33 per night!!!!!!

+ Location was short walk from train station and very close to tram routes 2 and 5. Good basic hotel, nothing fancy but nothing really bad.
- Weather and room was very warm so needed to open the windows for air. The noise of the trams made it slightly difficult to sleep.

+ Good location.
- NO air-conditioning. Room like a SAUNA. Not a hotel to stay in in any kind of warm weather. Staff seemed to find GUESTS a huge INCONVENIENCE. Asked for an extra pillow and we were told that this was not possible. In a hotel, charging over €200 per night??????? BREAKFAST quite POOR. No fruit. No variety of juice /cereals. Also service at breakfast was ridiculous. Came down one morning at 9am and no table set. Member of staff looking at us but too caught up texting her mates to get cutlery etc. Had to go up and ask her for every single item that we needed i.e may we have a bowl; may we have a spoon; may we have a cup. Again, this lady seemed very put out to be interrupted! Have stayed in hotels in all major cities all over Europe.. This hotel was by far THE WORST VALUE FOR MONEY I have ever encountered! Would not recommend it.

+ Very central easy access to train station by foot and all other attractions on a nice street with all necessities available and street was quiet at night no problems with the staff I liked this hotel and would stay in it again it had all we needed
- would have liked a DO NOT DISTURB sign to put on the door as the cleaners were round at 10am sharpe and were zealous about doing the job which is in no way a bad thing

+ Location. Clean. You get all what you need.
- A bit expensive but good price taking into account prices in Amsterdam

+ Location could not have been more perfect - we could see Amsterdam Central from our window. The room was recently renovated in a nice way. Decent bathroom.
- Due to the limited space in the building, the head of the bed in our room (43) was in a low alcove, about 40 cm deep. While this caused no problems while sleeping, it did cause a few interruptions (and bumps) in "other activities". Some padding would be welcome there!

+ Location
- Manager was a nightmare - zero customer care. We were unhappy with our room and were moved to a better room by a staff member. We were happy with this until we were on our way out and the manager insisted that we pay for our stay (which we did, by credit card) and then told us we had to move back into the room we were unhappy with. We explained that we were not happy with the first room but the second room was okay but he then told us to leave the hotel but also that we would lose money as we 'cancelled'. He left the hotel mid converstaion and did not return, it was left to another (helpful) hotel worker to sort things out and to apologise on the manager's behalf. A very frustrating experience as no one would accept reposnibility. Incidently, the reason why we were not happy with the first room was because, 1. the toilet was broken, 2. the room was dirty, 3. there was blood on the sheets.

+ Breakfast is really decent, and location is great.
- Bathroom really dirty. Place is a construction site. Cleaning lady comes, but doesn't replace toilet paper, you have to go to the reception and ask.

- Sign says "FREE WIRELESS INTERNET" that I was charged for and the elevator was out for a few days during renovations.

+ Great location, clean room.
- I could hear people walking in the halls at night. And the construction was rather noisy. Also, the lack of internet access was inconvenient as I was traveling for business.

+ in contradiction to the above yolz or jolz (phonetic) was outstanding on the front desk and stood out well above the others as he assisted us. breakfasts included were a definite plus
- The front desk's reaction to any requests was nonchalant and often without any response other than a smile. the young lady who first received us was much more interested in the young man she constantly chatted with (who was remodeling the hotel entrance way) than ever on our checking-in. later, we needed an adapter plug for our computer and one was never "found". each person on desk said "oh yes, there's one somewhere but apparently lost with the construction". i would have preferred the hotel make some effort to get a new one. that shouldn't be difficult. meanwhile we could not conduct business via our personal personal laptop computer.

+ The staff were very nice and helpfull, good location , very big bathroom and it was a very quite hotel so sleeping was never a problem.
- I would of liked a better shampoo and conditioner selection, and a hair dryer in my room, i would also of liked the option to smoke.

+ Close to Central Station.
- My room (single) under was the roof and one of the windows could not completely be shut and thus trafic and wind noise could be heard. Works still in progress on base floor (May 7-8th).

- Very dusty during the day in the reception area due to construction work, makes a confusing first impression

+ Great Breakfast. Confortable Room. Perfect Location. I read the reviews of the site before went there and it just gave me the idea everything was turned ok. As if someone from the hotel came to see what was wrong to re-arrange it. Just have the best to tell.
- Pretty noisy... not the streets but you almost can hear what other costumers are doing...

+ The room was nice and warm and the shower was excellent. the room was clean and very well located
- The beds were very uncomfortable. We had sore backs. There was no head rest, so really difficult to watch tv or read. There was a load buzzing noice went on all night, think it was the lift.

+ Great location, you'll see it from the exit of Central Station when you arrive.
- Booked a quad-room, which I suspect was a double room with 2 extra beds, so it was very small for 4 persons. Except for that, it was an okay hotel quality-wise.

- The price of the hotel is too expensive, because of is a hotel of two stars.

+ Very helpful and friendly staff. Good continental breakfast-plenty of choice. Very good central location within very easy walking distance from the station, trams, canal buses and central Amsterdam. Surrounded by places to eat out.
- On one night I was not able to have a hot bath at about 1900 since all the hot water had apparently been used up by other guests. Due to energy saving bulbs, the lighting in the room was not particularly bright, especially when you wanted to read.

+ Close to Central Station, and Tram lines.
- They were doing construction still in early March - a bit noisy and no in-room internet because of it.
