The NH Groningen Hotel is situated at the Hanzeplein near the pleasant city centre. The hotel is located opposite the UMCG hospital where guests can use the car park. The town centre, with the church tower Martinitoren and the central market square Grote Markt, can be reached easily.

Groningen has beautiful squares with impressive architecture. Good examples are the City Hall at the Grote Markt and the Korenbeurs, a former grain trade, at the Vismarkt square. The neoclassical style of these buildings can be found throughout the city. Culture seeking travellers will certainly enjoy the Groninger Museum or the small-scale maritime Museum Scheepvaartmuseum. This museum, which includes a tobacco museum, is housed in two monumental buildings from the 15th Century. The Grote Markt and the Vismarkt are connected by many shopping streets with a wide variety of specialty shops and fine restaurants. As well as this, Groningen has so many bars and cafés that it is impossible to become bored here.

NH Groningen Hotel offers all the facilities you may expect of a 4-star hotel. The rooms are equipped with air conditioning, toiletries, desk, hair dryer, wireless internet and a safe. Short walk to Grote Markt. Friendly staff.

The temperature was never sufficiently warm. One day cups/glasses were not washed and no soap was left. Internet MUCH TOO EXPENSIVE, and requires frequent sign ons. Breakfast TOO EXPENSIVE, and no salmon! Bread all too soft. Stale/musty odor in hallways. No smoking not enforced (my floor smelled like smoke). No mini bar.

close to central groningen. restaurants, bars, clubs, all close by. excellent parking facility across the street, and free for hotel guests on weekends. nice, clean, quiet, and comfortable room on 4th floor. much better than last year when stayed on the 9th floor and were woken up by a noisy church service on the 10th floor. alltogether, we will be back next year.

quite expensive, as all hotels seem to be these days. relatively, it has an average price for hotels near or in the heart of town. breakfast for 16 euros per person is ridiculously expensive! for these room prices, breakfast should be included. city tax of 3 euros per person should be included in the room price as well. the hotel still has that terrible NH shampoo and shower gel. one reeks of lemons and oranges after using it. NH has had these scents for years. we hope this changes in a regular flower scent of some sort.

The hotel is right across the (pedestrian) street from the hospital. It could not be easier. Parking is underneath the hospital.

The only problem I had was in the morning. I joined the check-out line at about 08:05. It took 15 minutes to check out, because there was only one person at the desk. As a result, I was late for my meeting at the medical centre.

Excellent downtown location without street noise at night, functional and clean rooms, handy bathrooms, very pleasant and helpful staff. For me it was a perfect choice (well, except for the bikes, but i did walk a lot...)

1) The availability of a bike (pretty essential for my busy schedule all across town) was promised but not always realized, since on 3 days I could not get a bike (all in use, keys could not be found, remaining bike had flat tire), while none of the 3 bikes I did use had the proper head- or back-lights. In hindsight I should have rented a bike at the station. I would recommend to keep the bikes in good shape, perform necessary repairs immediately and maybe allow reservations for people who will use one most of the time every day. 2) A generic minor problem with all hotels: why charge for every phone call made with a calling card using a toll free number? For this price I expect the same free use of the phone with toll free numbers as e.g. of the provided shampoo, toothbrush or lotion .....

Ligging

Uitstraling van hotel en kamers is iets te veel een IBIS sfeer en dat is volgens mij te laag voor wat je gemiddeld bij een NH verwacht. Mis een wat warmere uitstraling. Materiaalgebruik doet kil en onpersoonlijk aan. Ontbijtbuffet chaotisch en vaak en snel zonder enige voorraad die ook niet tijdig wordt aangevuld. Tafels tijdens ontbijt niet vlot en efficiënt afgeruimd. Koffie erg 'waterig'.
