The Carlton Square is within walking distance of the historic town centre of Haarlem. It has a convenient location, close to important exit roads to Amsterdam, and is only 10 kilometres from Schiphol Amsterdam Airport and the RAI Exhibition and Convention Centre in Amsterdam. A city trip combined with a day on the beach at Zandvoort is also easy to accomplish. The hotel has a heated terrace, its own restaurant, and a whiskey bar.

Surroundings

Haarlem has been awarded with the title 'best shopping city in The Netherlands' several times. The unique speciality shops, delicacy shops, and antique and curiosity shops are all within walking distance of the hotel. They are all found against a beautiful historic backdrop of canal houses and small city squares. Some renowned museums are the Frans Hals Museum and the oldest museum in The Netherlands: the Teylers Museum. The famous beach towns of Zandvoort and Bloemendaal are only 15 minutes away by car.

Food and Drinks

The breakfast buffet is served on weekdays from 07:00 to 10:00 h. and on weekends between 07:00 and 11:00 h. In the à la carte restaurant "De La Paix" guests can enjoy dishes that have been prepared on the spot, in the open cooking area. This created the informal atmosphere that makes this restaurant so special. The friendly approach from the staff adds a little extra to it as well. The Scottish Whiskey Bar offers a hundred kind of whiskeys, a true delight for conoisseurs. There is a small menu with snacks like Spanish tapas, light meals, and salads.

  • – I was disappointed, given that we purposely sought one of the best rooms, that we did not even get free coffee, let alone breakfast - given that the room was quite expensive. Also, the pillows were very stiff. You might want to consider the Hilton's "pillow menu" option to allow guests to request pillow choices. I had a stiff neck for two days. Otherwise, it was a very nice stay.

  • + The free upgrade that we received and the welcoming reception staff. The level of comfort and the surroundings of the Hotel are always very good.
  • – Breakfast over the weekend was disappointing as there was no-one cooking in the central part and some plates/dishes of food where not replenished quickly. Noticed that there seemed to be less staff working in the restaurant over the weekend.

  • – Check in was very poor, no information about breakfast etc was given. Breakfast was very expensive so we did not use it. No newspaper was supplied to room despite saying we were entitled to one on our booking. No turn down service at weekend was unusual. Never had that in an hotel before. Decor also looked very dated and really needs updating.
