+ Good sized room with very comfortable beds and hotel well placed for using public transport for Amsterdam or Haarlem. Hotel parking extra advantage as we were travelling by car.

- Room decoration somewhat "tired" food could be improved as could the lighting particularly in the restaurant at breakfast!

+ rooms are spacious. The shower is really working well

- hotel looks very poor and the room was not very tidy. We stayed in De Gouden leeuw in voorschoten and i must say it is much nicer. Not only the room but also the people behind the reception. F.e. in haarlem they greet you with a hallo instead of good morning what can i do for you. Outside the hotel part of a roofing has fallen down and not repaired. it really looks crappy. I think it is the worst Van der Valk hotel we have stayed in so far.

+ The service was strikingly friendly, accommodating and efficient - not an easy combination to achieve. Credit to the cleaning staff for their unobtrusive determination to clean our room, even if we were in it all day. Scale and length of breakfast buffet very impressive. Overall, a really rather good experience.

- I didn't see an explanation of the absence of iron & kettle from the room: not a problem, just an oddity in an otherwise well-run establishment. 13 euros for breakfast was striking, but on the other hand it was easily possible to eat 13 euros' worth in the generous amount of time provided.

- the hotel was lovely and we will be staying again, however the room had ants everywhere. they were on the bed too. we decided to get rid of the ants ourselves but we did mention the ants during checkout. there was an apology but they did seem disinterested..however this would not put us off booking again.. x

+ the service personal is extra good - friendly and really giving eversything to make you feel good. Dog-friendly - the rooms for dogowners are situated on the groundfloor so that the dog can get directly in the green ... but...

- the rooms for dogowners - the one we had - had not a good view because of the groundfloor location - on the parking space and then on the wall of a building. But enough greens for my dog ...

+ I really like this hotel chain. I have stayed in several different Vandervalk hotels and they are all good. I especially like the hotel in Haarlem. I have seen many improvement over the years at this hotel. Keep up the good work!

- An occasional hotel employee who forgets who the customer is but all in all no big deal.

+ I really enjoy staying at this hotel and I have done so many times. I have noticed the ongoing improvements you have made and congratulate you on them. There does seem to be some confusion about when dining ends in the evening. Nevertheless, the location is great, the service is good and the hotel is clean with no one getting into your affairs unnecessarily. Thank you!

- Sound proofing of windows and rooms not great. Construction work going on in hotel, while unavoidable, made the time in the room during the day a little annoying.

- the hotel was shabby and looked 'well used'. it was disappointing to have to pay extra for everything - use of pool, internet access etc. food in the restaurant was very ordinary.

+ We had an extremely large room, with a lot of space for our 3-year old son to play in. The room had a balcony as well, with sliding doors which we could open for fresh air. The room was very quiet.

- Even though there was a separate shower AND a shower over bath, we could not use the shower cabin because water leaked everywhere. The matrasses were not firm, that was very dissapointing. However for just two nights it was bearable to sleep on them. Breakfast was plentiful and very varied, but it was extremely busy with holiday makers to the point where people jumped queues.

+ It was very convenient for transport from Schiphol and to Haarlem. The price of the room when booked through Hotels.nl was very reasonable.

- There had been warm weather just before arriving and the room was too hot without any means of cooling it down.

+ The location was perfect.

- The Wi-Fi internet sevices at the hotel are very expensive. Nowadays internet is very cheap so we would expect a 4 stars hotel to give the internet, either for free to guessts in the hotel, or for minimum price, like other hotels do.

+ This is our fourth or fifth visit to this hotel. The staff are always extremely friendly and helpful. Their English is also first class. On this visit we were remembered because I lost my mobile on the previous visit and the reception staff asked if it had all been sorted out to my satisfaction. Very good customer relations ! The restaurant fed us very quickly when we needed to get to Amsterdam and did not have much time. Good service from all restaurant staff.

- We wonder whether the heating was working 100% on our last two visits? We felt the room could have been warmer.

+ Excellent choice of breakfast (came home with an expanded waistline!); location meant easy walk to city centre. Spacious rooms and comfortable beds.

- Bathrooms need better lighting; bath & shower areas were poorly lit. No in-room tea/coffee facilities; not good for this standard of hotel unless there are alternatives. With the bar closed, we could not get a hot drink when we came in just after 1am on Monday morning.

+ Great location with convenient bus service to Amsterdam and airport. Room was large, clean and confortable. Buffet breakfast was one of the best we found during our forty-sven day travels around Europe. All in all a great tourist hotel.

- Perhaps a few and blemishes, but worth mentioning.My wife and I were bumming around Europe. We wanted a clean, safe reasonably priced to sleep. We were not looking for a distination resort, which this hotel would not have been.

+ Probably the best hotel of its class in Haarlem Good location Plenty of parking When we booked online 6 weeks ago unfortunately you had no 2 person rooms so we had to accept a 3 person room. My son however arrived sooner and your were flexible enough to find us what we wanted

- Major complaint affecting hygiene score was that we were allocated room 573 with a sodden carpet We had to repack and unpack again in 557. Poor show! Would also have liked the option of a small continental breakfast at lower cost served in separate area the bar or terrace?

+ big but spacious hotel, beautiful layout, easy parking, nice decor everywhere except corridors to bedrooms, good leisure facilities (altho not used by us), excellent breakfast, good bath/shower with hot water. Our 4 bed family room was spacious, comfortable and good value for money.

- Bedrooms quite warm. Staff friendly but when checking out I had to wait quite a while before being noticed, while there where 4 people at reception, doing computer work. Breakfast bit expensive. Lack of street signs in Haarlem so it took us a while to find city centre from the hotel, so it would be a good idea to hand out Haarlem maps at reception at check-in. Corridors to bedrooms are clean, but the decor needs updating in comparison with rest of hotel.

+ Rooms are good, certainly concerning the price. The hotel looks Ok and clean on the inside.

- Service sucks. Apperantly, the low price of the room influences the rate at which they want to hire people. Very amaturistic front desk, loud cleaning personel. Curtain in the room was too short and let in way too much light in the morning. The overall service experience is far from what a 'good' hotel is able to give you. But Ok... for 70 ¤ a night, it probably doesn't get much better.

- The fixtures and fittings in the rooms themselves are a bit dated and in places are looking rather tired.

+ Convenient for travel by train to Amsterdam. Good shower room.Good parking facilities.

- Smoking in eating and other areas was unpleasant and made hotel smell of stale tobacco. Films of dust on furniture in bedrooom, and on sideboard in dining areas was disappointing. No mini bar or air conditioning. Not really a 4star hotel, we did stay in some genuine 4 stars in Holland.

+ Due to highway construction work and the extreme difficulty for us to find a route to Haarlem, we called the hotel to inform them of our late arrival. They were most understanding and made certain we did not lose our reservation due to late arrival. Many thanks!

- A light breakfast being included in the room rate would have scored perfect 10s.

+ Staff was very helpful. Central Haarlem is a short walk.

- The name on the building was not "van der Valk" but "Hotel Harlem". We spent an hour looking for "van der Valk" before stopping to ask directions. The exterior of the building and the grounds needs repair, but the rooms are very nice. We didn't try breakfast since it seemed quite expensive (48 Euros for the four of us). There was a Deka market nearby where we bought some food for breakfast.

- 1. The hotel did not have record of our reservation which I made with you. Fortunately they had room. That could have been bad. 2. It was a bit noisy but that was due to people outside and not a fault of the hotel.

- the elevator was not working, very unconvenient. I signaled it and pointed it out, when I left it was still not functioning, furthemore no whatsoever sign of understanding from the girl at the reception (I was the one who was annoying them by complaining). The hall and the corridor do not deserve more than three stars, the room neither. On the desk in the room, there were few aunts walking happily, one of which I later found in my bag. The salad bar can only be used in conjuction with a main dish: nonsense. No fast internet connection available inthe room: nowadays, in Netherlands, in Haarlem, for that cost, it is unacceptable.

- this hotel upon first glance apears to be 4-5 star upon closer exam is a 2-3 star, the steps at the entrance are detioriated to almost being unsafe. At times the desk staff are rude and stuffy. Access to rooms is very hard, and the whole place is dirty hallways / stairwells etc

- Cleaning should have been far better. The hotel seems a bit "Tired".

+ reactie op reclamatie.

- 1) de eerste kamer was vies en stonk verschrikkelijk. Na reclameren werd dit wel meteen opgelost door een andere kamer aan te bieden, maar de stank (leek op braaksel) was zo evident dat mijns inziens de kamer niet eens had mogen worden aangeboden. 2)geen goede intenet mogelijkheden (kaartjes uitverkocht)
