In Van der Valk Hotel Leiden and restaurant Het Haagsche Schouw tradition and modern comfort go hand in hand. The hotel-restaurant has a unique location along the Rijn river, close to the A44 motorway and on the outskirts of the beautiful historic city centre of Leiden.

Van der Valk Hotel Leiden is easily accessible from the motorway that runs from The Hague (Den Haag) to Amsterdam and offers its guests free parking as well. The hotel has a private jetty on the Rijn river, from where a cruise can be made. A day trip to the bulb fields, dunes or the sea can easily be accomplished from here. Via the reception you can also rent a bicycle.

The luxurious rooms offer all modern amenities for business as well as leisure guests. They are spacious and stylishly decorated and offer a bathroom with a bath and separate shower and toilet. Furthermore, they have a desk, small fridge, flatscreen, telephone and a safe. Guests that bring their laptop can make use of the wireless internet connection in the room at an additional charge.

The hotel has ten different multifunctional rooms that are situated above the restaurant. They are provided with all modern amenities. The rooms can be booked seperately, but also offer ample space for parties or conferences when they are joined.

Food and Drinks

The breakfast buffet is set up from Monday through Friday between 07:00 and 10:30 h. and on weekends from 08:00 to 11:00 h.
Restaurant De Haagsche Schouw was extended in 2007 and has a nice classical appearance. The wonderful open kitchen is very prominent. A lunch buffet is served from Monday through Friday and a special brunch is organised on Sundays. Guests can enjoy the savoury à la carte dishes in the evening. It is advised to make reservations. As soon as the weather permits, guests can have dinner on the lovely outside terrace on the riverside.

I won't stay in this hotel again!

First of all, check before booking that whether they give you a room with a balcony directly facing the cross of two main, busy roads. Secondly, if you are lucky, receiving a room on the opposite side, then check that whether they give you a smoking one without informing you before you paid because all rooms are reserved. Later on, when you walk into your room, you will find that there is no refrigerator in the room of this 4-stars hotel, neither a boiler.

The view outside the room doesn't like what showed on the website at all. If that's the reason you want to book it, forget about it!

Comfortable hotel, but don't use the luggage elevator!

Spacious, comfortable rooms. Nice looking restaurant, good food.

No coffee-/tea making facilities in room. At 6AM I discovered the small elevator that one can use to overcome the level difference between the 2 buildings was not working. The already closed door did not open again, and with no personnel around I had to lift my 30kg suitcase (and myself)over the door. The receptionist did not see the need to apologize. Disappointing end of my stay!

Room was nice and clean,lobby and bar newly renovated and very nice. Bus stops just outside to take you to Amsterdam and The Hague.

The out of town location is ideal for my visit to the western part of Leiden.

Staff on reception very helpful (but gave us the wrong bus times). Handy for bus stops into Leiden/Hague. Good mints!

Service in restaurant at lunchtime was very slow and sullen. For Four Star hotels, I would expect at least air conditioning, a fridge in the room and tea/coffee making facilities, and as we stayed for 7 nights, these would have been welcome. A change of sheets once would have been nice and bedspread was dirty when we arrived. Also, bar is not well eqiupped and closes early.

Standaard kamer voldeed aan onze verwachtingen. Prettige bediening en zeer uitgebreid ontbijtbuffet en gezellige hotelbar. Locatie uitstekend. Mooie uitvalbasis voor uitjes naar Scheveningen en museum Coropus te Leiden. Centrum Leiden bereikbaar via transferium Haagweg met gratis shuttlebusjes. Erg gezellige stad met veel bezienswaardigheden en gezellige horeca. Wandeling "de Leidse loper" is aanrader.

in het donker is dit hotel vanaf de weg niet te zien; ik ben er drie keer langsgereden en heb uiteindelijk bij een tankstation de juiste afslag gevonden. 's ochtends vroeg wakker geworden van optrekkend (vracht)verkeer, nabij verkeerslicht. Vreemd dat kamer zonder ontbijt wordt verkocht.

de uitstaraling van het hotel aan de binnezijde was erg chique en straalde rust uit.

ik kon niet met mijn pinpas in de bar betalen, de dranken rekening kon ook niet aan de receptie voldaan worden en ook niet op mijn kamer gezet worden, zodat ik deze alsnog de volgende dag aan de receptie kon voldoen. ontbijtbuffet vond ik niet erg spectaculair uitgebreid en op onze balkon was er een lamp kapot, deze knipperde de hele nacht, waar ik nog een poos van wakker gelegen heb, toen ik dit de volgende dag bij het uitchecken meldde bleek het probleem al bekend te zijn, maar ze hadden het niet meer kunnen maken, omdat wij al ingechecked waren (dit vond ik wat veemd, omdat wij pas om 20.00 uur incheckte),
