Van der Valk Hotel Leiden is easily accessible from the motorway that runs from The Hague (Den Haag) to Amsterdam and offers its guests free parking as well. The hotel has a private jetty on the Rijn river, from where a cruise can be made. A day trip to the bulb fields, dunes or the sea can easily be accomplished from here. Via the reception you can also rent a bicycle.

The rooms offer all modern amenities for business as well as leisure guests. They are spacious and stylishly decorated and offer a bathroom with a bath and separate shower and toilet. The breakfast buffet is set up from Monday through Friday between 07:00 and 10:30 h. and on weekends from 08:00 to 11:00 h.
Restaurant De Haagsche Schouw was extended in 2007 and has a nice classical appearance. The wonderful open kitchen is very prominent. A lunch buffet is served from Monday through Friday and a special brunch is organised on Sundays. Guests can enjoy the savoury à la carte dishes in the evening. It is advised to make reservations. As soon as the weather permits, guests can have dinner on the lovely outside terrace on the riverside.

Anonymous Good Overall Experience: 4 February 2012; 8.0; + Good overall experience and excellent brunch buffet.; - Comfort rooms may need remodeling. The alcony in my room needed sweeping. The location of this hotel puts it on the outskirts of Leiden, but it is ok if traveling with a car.

Anonymous Nice place to stay in a nice location: 16 May 2011; 8.0; + Excellent service at the front desk, excellent breakfast, excellent location for the area.; - Our room with nice balcony was a very long walk away from the only door that was not locked - the one by the front desk. There were at least two entry doors closer to our room which would have made our entry walk to our room reasonable, but they were locked for security purposes.

Rotem Zamir A beautiful & cozy hotel, skip breakfast...: 18 August 2010; 9.4; + A beautiful hotel, all new and renovated. We had an amazing 3 days there and the service was very attentive and helpful !; - The breakfast is too expenssive... 12.50 Euro per adult and 6.5 Euro per child. My girls are 6 and 5 year old and they charged for each of them.

James Furness The service in this hotel was terrible. We would never go there again: 15 July 2010; 3.4; + The food in reataurant was very good; - No air conditioning - very hot an difficult to sleep. No coffe or tea making facilities in rooms, no fridge. When we arrived we were given an outside room which was very noisy due to traffic, when we specifically booked an inside room for quietnes. The servcie in the restaurant was very slow . We waited an hour for our main course, and 20 minutes for a bottle of wine. Whne the wine fianmly arrived after asking three times it was the wrong one.

Central to most South Holland places (everything from Den Haag to Amsterdam); - Breakfast price. E12.50 in the hotel. E5-E6 somewhere else like a nearby cafe.

Pieter.J de Jong Prachtig, betaalbaar, uitstekend: 25 May 2010; 9.0; + Prachtige kamer met uitstekende verduisterings gordijnen, vriendelijk en behulpzaam personeel. Uitstekend ontbijtbuffet en bij mooie dagen heerlijk op het terras aan het water ontbijten. het strand, Den Haag en Leiden zijn prachtig bereikbaar. Flinke parkeerplaats.; - Er is een onhandig trapje om bij de kamers en de lift te komen. Alleen voor gehandicapten is er een soort lift.

Anonymous I won't stay in this hotel again!: 18 May 2009; 3.2; + First of all, check before booking that whether they give you a room with a balcony directly facing the cross of two main, busy roads. Secondly, if you are lucky, receiving a room on the opposite side, then check that whether they give you a smoking one without informing you before you paid because all rooms are reserved. Later on, when you walk into your room, you will find that there is no refrigerator in the room of this 4-stars hotel, neither a boiler.; - The view outside the room doesn't like what showed on the website at all. If that's the reason you want to book it, forget about it!

M. Sluijter-Hensen Comfortable hotel, but don't use the luggage elevator!: 2 November 2008; 7.2; + Spacious, comfortable rooms. Nice looking restaurant, good food.; - No coffee-/tea making facilities in room. At 6AM I discovered the small elevator that one can use to overcome the level difference between the 2 buildings was not working. The already closed door did not open again, and with no personnel around I had to lift my 30kg suitcase (and myself)over the door. The receptionist did not see the need to apologize. Disappointing end of my stay!

Bus stops just outside to take you to Amsterdam and The Hague.; - We were on the lowest level, which is cheaper, but very dark. OK is you are just there for the night.

Mr Garry Whiting Excellent hotel with minor defects.: 21 September 2008; 8.0; + The out of town location is ideal for my visit to the western part of Leiden.; - Breakfast only available from 8.00am on weekends. There are no tea and coffee making facilities available in the room which should be obligatory in hotel of this quality and price.

Sluijter-Hensen Lovely hotel, but who cleaned our room?: 8 September 2008; 7.8; + Very nicely renovated Fitness room is a big plus Friendly staff; - On our second day the room was not cleaned properly (if at all): still hairs on bathroom floor, wet towel on the bed (we didn't put it there!), garbage bag left in the room

Scottish Visitor Four (?) Star Hotel: 27 August 2008; 4.2; + Staff on reception very helpful (but gave us the wrong bus times). Handy for bus stops into Leiden/Hague. Good mints!; - Service in restaurant at lunchtime was very slow and sullen. For Four Star hotels, I would expect at least air conditioning, a fridge in the room and tea/coffee making facilities, and as we stayed for 7 nights, these would have been welcome. A change of sheets once would have been nice and bedspread was dirty when we arrived. Also, bar is not well eqiupped and closes early.

Reah Nice Place: 18 August 2008; 7.0; + Good size bedroom and bathroom kept very clean. also a good gym.; - Lack of iron and ironing board proved problematic not available for any of the four days I stayed.

Sis & Tor: 20 July 2008; 9.0; + The room was large and therefore gave good comfort. Service was excellent. Lots of free parking spaces.; - 1) No refrigerator in the room. 2) The internet ought to be a service from the hotel and included in the price. 3) Breakfast is good and varied, but the price is too high. Maybe a price reduction if you include this for long stays?

Greenwell: 4 April 2008; 8.0; + Couldn't fault the staff for their level of service. Plenty of choice at breakfast. Good sized room for the price and the room was quiet too even with a busy road nearby. Well sign-posted within the town so easy to find too.; - No room service available, during our stay.
