This small-scale family hotel has a wealthy tradition. Hotel van Walsum Rotterdam was established in several mansions that date from the year 1895. The widow 'van Walsum' started a pension here in 1936 to provide for a living. The 'van Dam' family bought the premises in 1955 and has rebuilt and expanded the pension several times. The specific atmosphere of a classical hotel, where hospitality is still considered of paramount importance, has never faded. The ideal location of the hotel enables you to explore every aspect of the city, such as the renowned museum 'Boymans van Beuningen' that is just a short stroll away, or 'De Kunsthal' that presents many different exhibitions. But Rotterdam has much more to offer. What about a visit to the Euromast or 'Diergaarde Blijdorp' (Blijdorp Zoo)? It can all easily be reached from the hotel.

All rooms in Hotel van Walsum have their own characteristic features. Because no standard furniture was used for the decoration, every room breathes its own atmosphere. The hotel is equipped with many modern amenities such as an elegant lobby with an Internet corner, a cosy restaurant with an outside terrace, a lovely bar and an elevator. What's more, you can use the wireless Internet connection with your laptop throughout the hotel, and park your car on the private car park.

Wonderful weekend in Rotterdam
  • + The staff at this hotel were more than helpful in any instance. A good central location to the attractions in Rotterdam, and even though our room faced the road, there was no interferance to our stay from any noise outside.
  • none!
  • * my tip A definate must was the Saturday evening cruise on the Spido!

Unpretentious, quite OK for brief stay, and the staff are very good
  • + Efficient lift. Helpful staff. Near Museum Park. Some books available to borrow, and quite a good folder of City information though it was not all up to date. But staff knew a lot.
  • Tea/coffee in room was not automatically provided. Breakfast rather costly unless you have a really big appetite.
  • * my tip Excellent real Italian food on near corner, not just pizzas. Wonderful museums in nearby park.

A very convenient and welcoming hotel.
  • + A very good hotel in all respects. Very helpful and friendly evening reception staff.
  • I stayed for two separate nights and was bitten by mosquiitoes on both occasions. I had the window open and am prone to being bitten so I suppose it is just that I am susceptible. I stayed in a hotel in Zurich last summer and the same thing happened there-so it is just me! I wouldn't let that put anyone off staying there.
  • * my tip There is an easy-to- reach restaurant cafe ( The West Pavillion)on the corner which has a good menu and is nice to sit outside. It is handy if you arrive late or don't want to go further for a meal.

Great Rotterdam location with great Dutch breakfast
  • + Great location near Boymans van Beuningen museum and the harbor but even the center is walking distance. Private parking!! Wonderful room on 3rd floor with doors to balcony. Very comfortable beds, Clean and well appointed bathroom with towel warmer! One of the best Dutch breakfast buffets we've had in NL. Very nice staff, very tastefully decorated public areas and bedroom. We will return!!
  • Nothing, except this hotel may not be convenient for a physically handicapped person.
  • * my tip Best deal in Rotterdam. Great location to visit Museum and Harbor. Don't take the water taxi, just the shuttle (or walk) and take the "Tuk-Tuk" back from the SS Rotterdam.

Good value and conveniently located
  • + The location is excellent for anywhere in the city centre. The breakfast is great, and the room we stayed in was recently refurbished.
  • The hotel seemed to be undergoing refurbishment while we stayed there and there was no lift, which made getting to our third floor room a bit difficult. However despite this the hotel managed to provide a good service and the quality of the refurbished rooms seems high.

Friendly, spotless, great breakfast -3 blocks from Erasmus MC
  • + staff extremely courteous and friendly; generous buffet breakfast with wide selection of items, served across a wide time span (6:30 am-10:30 am so it was conveniently accessible no matter what my plans. very, very clean. Good security (visitors must be buzzed in to the front door, keys must be left at the desk). Amenities like shampoo, soap and shower caps provided (this was not the case in other hotels I stayed at nearby). Coffee, tea, etc. made available in the room. Extra blanket and pillows provided automatically. Heat adjustable by room.
  • I have stayed there three times (three different rooms). IN one room, the toilet has an odor.....I have experienced this also at the nearby hospital, so I think it may be a problem of the sewer system, and not the hotel's fault. It certainly was not from a lack of cleanliness....the hotel and bathroom was spotless!

  • + Lovely bathroom, very comfortable bed, lots of space, great working TV, warm and cosy and very clean, friendly people at reception and in breakfast room, and the breakfast was very good too.
  • Not really. Perhaps a boiled egg would have been nice as an extra for breakfast but I didn't ask so can't complain.

  • + Staff were courteous and VERY helpful (even BEFORE I arrived--they helped me alot with booking). Room and bathroom VERY clean; loved having teapot, cups, etc in room. Breakfast had a wonderful selection of items. Great to have soap and shampoo in room (not all hotels offer this). Great location since I needed to go to Erasmus MC.
  • No real minuses. Everything was great. Would love to have had instructions for how to use the safe (maybe I missed them??)Also, although it's not a minus, I would certainly consider it a huge PLUS if there were one or two free bottles of water in the room (for brushing teeth, making tea, etc.) I would recommend your hotel to anyone.
