Description

This small-scale family hotel has a wealthy tradition. Hotel van Walsum Rotterdam was established in several mansions that date from the year 1895. The widow 'van Walsum' started a pension here in 1936 to provide for a living. The 'van Dam' family bought the premises in 1955 and has rebuilt and expanded the pension several times. The specific atmosphere of a classical hotel, where hospitality is still considered of paramount importance, has never faded. The ideal location of the hotel enables you to explore every aspect of the city, such as the renowned museum 'Boymans van Beuningen' that is just a short stroll away, or 'De Kunsthal' that presents many different exhibitions. But Rotterdam has much more to offer. What about a visit to the Euromast or 'Diergaarde Blijdorp' (Blijdorp Zoo)? It can all easily be reached from the hotel.

All rooms in Hotel van Walsum have their own characteristic features. Because no standard furniture was used for the decoration, every room breathes its own atmosphere. The hotel is equipped with many modern amenities such as an elegant lobby with an Internet corner, a cosy restaurant with an outside terrace, a lovely bar and an elevator. What's more, you can use the wireless Internet connection with your laptop throughout the hotel, and park your car on the private car park.

Food and Drinks

From 06:30 to 10:00 h. you can enjoy the extensive breakfast buffet in the informal atmosphere of the restaurant. The restaurant is open on request for groups. Guests can order small dishes 24 hours a day.

Internet

The free wireless Internet connection can be used throughout the hotel. Guests can use the Internet computer in the lobby as well.

Other information

- The hotel has a 24-hour reception.
- Pets are not allowed.
- An extra bed can be provided on request for €30 per night including breakfast.

Surroundings

Hotel van Walsum is situated close to the 'Museumpark'. Together with the 'Witte de Withstraat' this area is considered the 'Kunst-As' (centre of art) of Rotterdam. Many museums and galleries are located here. But don't forget to admire the modern architecture that this city is famous for, such as the well known cube-houses and the elegant Erasmus bridge.

+ The location is excellent for anywhere in the city centre. The breakfast is great, and the room we stayed in was recently refurbished.
- The hotel seemed to be undergoing refurbishment while we stayed there and there was no lift, which made getting to our third floor room a bit difficult. However despite this the hotel managed to provide a good service and the quality of the refurbished rooms seems high.
Sandra A good place to stay in Rotterdam

Karen Friendly, spotless, great breakfast -3 blocks from Erasmus MC
9.4
+ staff extremely courteous and friendly; generous buffet breakfast with wide selection of items, served across a wide time span (6:30 am-10:30 am so it was conveniently accessible no matter what my plans. very, very clean. Good security (visitors must be buzzed in to the front door, keys must be left at the desk). Amenities like shampoo, soap and shower caps provided (this was not the case in other hotels I stayed at nearby). Coffee, tea, etc. made available in the room. Extra blanket and pillows provided automatically. Heat adjustable by room.
- I have stayed there three times (three different rooms). IN one room, the toilet has an odor.....I have experienced this also at the nearby hospital, so I think it may be a problem of the sewer system, and not the hotel's fault. It certainly was not from a lack of cleanliness....the hotel and bathroom was spotless!
Heidi Krahn I enjoyed my stay and would recommend the hotel to ohers
10
+ Lovely bathroom, very comfortable bed, lots of space, great working TV, warm and cosy and very clean, friendly people at reception and in breakfast room, and the breakfast was very good too.
- Not really. Perhaps a boiled egg would have been nice as an extra for breakfast but I didn't ask so can't complain.

+ Staff were courteous and VERY helpful (even BEFORE I arrived--they helped me alot with booking). Room and bathroom VERY clean; loved having teapot, cups, etc in room. Breakfast had a wonderful selection of items. Great to have soap and shampoo in room (not all hotels offer this). Great location since I needed to go to Erasmus MC.
- No real minuses. Everything was great. Would love to have had instructions for how to use the safe (maybe I missed them??)Also, although it's not a minus, I would certainly consider it a huge PLUS if there were one or two free bottles of water in the room (for brushing teeth, making tea, etc.) I would recommend your hotel to anyone.

+ Very friendly service, the receptionist tried to solve the WiFi problem. The dinner was excellent. Very convenient closed parking facilities next door.
- My US colleague had chosen this hotel because it offered WiFi connection in the brochure. It turned out to be rather difficult in reality, needed to hire a special hardware interface, did not work out to his satisfaction.

9.6
+ * polite and kind staff * very cozy atmosphere * the size of hotel and well organized space make fill free and relax * the oppotunity to ask any questions by e-mail and get a fast answer
- * difficult to find your hotel for a visitor from abroad

+ The hotel was clean, facilities were very nice, staff was helpful, and the complimentary breakfast was excellent.
- I have two main complaints about the hotel's procedures: (1) When going out you are supposed to leave your key at the front desk. I do not understand why. When you get back, you just tell them your room number and they give you your key back. What is someone walks in off the street and claims to be staying there but isn't? They could steal all your stuff. When I went out for a few hours and got back, there was a different person working the desk (so they couldn't have recognized me), and I wasn't asked to show id. They just gave me the room key with no questions. (2) the deadbolt to lock the doors from the inside uses the key. What if you lock the door and then misplace the key? You would have locked yourself in your own room.

- Eenvoudige kamer.
Anonymous Fiijn hotel hotel.
7.6
+ vriendelijk, dicht bij het centrum, bus halte , uitstekend ontbijt, kneuterig
- een beetje gedateerde kamers. Gehorig. Je hoort de lift naar boven komen en de ventilatieroosters maken erg veel lawaai.
